2017 Golden Globe Awards: Where and How to Watch

2017 Golden Globe Awards:

On Sunday night, Jimmy Fallon will host the 2017 Golden Globe Awards, the looser-than-the-Emmys-or-Oscars affair that honors the best in both film and television. The Tonight Show star is the first new host in seven years, after four stints from the oft-controversial Ricky Gervais and three from his former Saturday Night Live costars Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.

This year, the whimsical musical La La Land starring Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone leads the film nominations while Ryan Murphy's epic The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story leads the television nominations. Other top contenders include DeadpoolStranger Things,Moonlight and 20th Century Women

How to Watch the 2017 Golden Globes Online

The Golden Globes—the messiest, most insignificant, and most fun of the awards shows—are Sunday, and there are plenty of inexpensive (or free) ways to get your fill of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling accepting their awards.

Red Carpet Live kicks off at 6 p.m. Eastern on E!, while the “Arrival Special,” which will include winner predictions and behind-the-scenes scoops, begins at 7 p.m. on NBC. This writer suggests sticking with the red carpet show to see how many times Ryan Seacrest and Giuliana Rancic offend, embarrass, or have an awkward encounter with the celebrities they’re interviewing.

The show itself begins at 8 p.m. on NBC with host Jimmy Fallon. The easiest way to watch NBC is on Sling TV, a streaming service that offers the channel in some markets (for more info check out its website). You can snag a seven-day free trial if you’re a new customer. If you’re not, check out DirecTV Now, a $35-per-month service that also offers a free week of TV viewing. You can also catch E!’s coverage on both services. If that doesn’t work, the Golden Globes’ official red carpet coverage will be live-streamed on Twitter.

Alternatively, you can access NBC via an indoor antenna since it’s a broadcast network. In the past, MONEY has recommended the Mohu Leaf antenna. (To stream the channel on NBC.com, you need a cable login.)

And if you haven’t watched all of the nominees yet, here’s where you can find them.

Who will win Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream Awards

Who will win Golden Globes 2017 Live Stream Awards

“The show is in its 6th season, and we’ve generally done everything by the book,” Murphy told THR not long ago. “We needed to [create a] distinctive experience for the fans this year.”
With regards to that mandate, no different points of interest have been discharged about season seven, aside from that it will debut at some point in 2017.
‘American Horror Story: Roanoke’: All the Details After Episode Three
Should the Oscars break that unfortunate trend, 2017 may prove be a particularly historic one for the Academy. Viola Davis is mounting a major campaign to take home her first-ever Oscar for “Fences,” an adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by August Wilson. Davis won her second Tony for the role in the Broadway revival. Her onstage leading man, Denzel Washington, will pull double duty — directing and co-starring in the film.

Should Negga and Davis earn Best Actress nominations, Golden Globes Awards 2017 Live it would be an overdue event for the Academy. It’s extremely rare that two non-white actresses are nominated in the same category during the same year. To date, it’s only happened four times: in 1967 (Beah Richards and Carol Channing), 1972 (1972 Cicely Tyson and Diana Ross), 1985 (Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey) and 2008 (Viola Davis and Taraji P. Henson).
If the Oscars want to make 2017 the year of black actresses, one film to watch out for is “Hidden Figures.” The little-known true story about three NASA engineers who help launch John Glenn into space has a dream cast, featuring Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer (“The Help”), Oscar-nominee Taraji P. Henson (TV’s “Empire) and R&B singer Janelle Monae. Directed by Theodore Melfi (“St. Vincent”), Fox is reportedly high on the film, so much so that it’s screening raw footage from the film at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
Monae will also appear in “Moonlight,” a coming-of-age drama in the vein of “Pariah” and “Boyhood.” Based on the play “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue,” the Barry Jenkins-directed film follows Chiron, a black gay man coming to terms with his sexuality against the backdrop of the War on Drugs in Reagan-era Miami. Chiron is played by three different actors (Andre Holland, Jharrel Jerome and Jaden Piner) over the course of his life. British actress Naomie Harris (“Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom”) is receiving the lion’s share of pre-release buzz for the film, as Chiron’s supportive mother, Paula.
“Moonlight” was a major smash at the Telluride Film Festival, where “Brokeback Mountain began its awards season run 11 years ago. Currently, Jenkins’ film stands at a perfect 100 on Metacritic, a strong sign of its Best Picture (and potentially Best Director) chances going forward. No LGBT-themed film has won the highest honors at the Oscars since Bob Fosse’s “Cabaret” in 1973, and an armful of trophies for Jenkins and his team help address the Academy Awards’ repeated exclusion of queer-themed films. In addition to the “Brokeback” controversy — when “Crash” upset the gay cowboy romance in 2006 — the critically-beloved lesbian drama “Carol” was left off last year’s Best Picture list.
Aside from Denzel Washington — who is a two-time winner — the most probable black Best Actor nominee is David Oyelowo, who will be competing against himself this Oscar season. The Brit stars in both “Queen of Katwe,” a Disney crowdpleaser about a Ugandan girl who dreams of being a chess champion, and “A United Kingdom,” an interracial period romance. Oyelowo plays the first president of Botswana, Seretse Khama, who created an international stir in 1947 when he married a British clerk, played in the film by Rosamund Pike (“Gone Girl”).
NEW YORK – September 21, 2016 – Bravo Media Golden Globes Awards 2017 Live Stream  and Universal Cable Productions (UCP) announce Golden Globe winning actress Uma Thurman will guest star in the new original scripted series, “My So Called Wife,” (wt) with a story arc spanning several episodes. Uma will play Lenny Cohen, the ultimate fixer. When the reclusive ring-leader of a group of con artists needs to keep his employees in line, eliminate an enemy, or whip up a world class omelette, there is only one person for the job – the lethal, articulate and mysterious Lenny Cohen.
“Uma and I have been friends for a very long time – I’m thrilled that after many tries we’ll finally get to work together,” said Executive Producer Adam Brooks. “Paul Adelstein and I wrote the role of Lenny Cohen specifically for her, and we are so excited to see how Uma’s iconic and very special talents will bring to life this unique and provocative character.”
“My So Called Wife” (wt) follows Maddie (Inbar Lavi, “Gang Related”), a persona shifting con-artist who is as beautiful as she is dangerous, which makes her unsuspecting victims even more tormented when they realize they have been used and robbed of everything… including their hearts. But things get complicated when her latest victims, Ezra (Rob Heaps, “Frankenstein and the Vampyre: A Dark and Stormy Night”) and Richard (Parker Young, “Suburgatory”) try to track her down just as she eyes her next mark, Patrick (Stephen Bishop, “Being Mary Jane”).
Jimmy Fallon will host the ceremony, which will air Jan. 8 on NBC. The nominees for the 74th annual Golden Globe Awards were announced Monday morning by actors Don Cheadle, Laura Dern, and Anna Kendrick. Films nominated for the leading prize of Best Motion Picture—Drama were Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Lion, Manchester by the Sea, and Moonlight. On the Musical or Comedy side of the same prize, 20th Century Women, Deadpool, Florence Foster Jenkins, La La Land, and Sing Street were picked. For Best TV Series—Comedy, the nominees are Atlanta, Blackish, Mozart in the Jungle, Veep, and Transparent, which has won the prize the last two years in a row. On the drama side of TV, the picks were The Crown, Stranger Things, This Is Us, Westworld, and the thrice-nominated-but-never-won Game of Thrones. HBO’s popular new series Westworld also snagged nominations for best lead and supporting actresses.

How to watch Golden Globes Live Stream ?

2017, however, is looking to be light on the traditional prestige fare that usually drives awards season. There’s “La La Land,” a musical set in the Golden Age of Hollywood, and possibly “Live By Night,” a Ben Affleck-directed gangster film that has yet to set a release date. Martin Scorsese’s “Silence” will bow in November, but it’s a three-hour plus drama about Jesuit monks in 17th century Japan. That might be a hard sell for audiences, even within the Academy.
The dearth of usual-suspect front-runners may lead to an uncertain Oscar season, but it could also be a major boon to actors of color, despite the Parker controversy. After two consecutive years of all-white acting nominees, this could finally be the year of #OscarsSoBlack.
Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, promised a dramatic restructuring of Oscar voting eligibility following deafening criticism of the Academy’s lack of diversity. In 2014, director Ava DuVernay missed out on a chance to become the first black woman nominated for Best Director for “Selma,” a galvanizing civil rights drama that earned among the best reviews of the year and a Best Picture nomination.

The biggest stars in film and television will descend on Beverly Hills’ Beverly Hilton on Sunday for the 74th Golden Globe Awards. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon, the annual event will honor the year’s best in small- and big-screen productions. Going into the night, La La Land led on the film side with seven nominations, followed closely by Moonlight and Manchester by the Sea. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story received the most TV nominations with five, followed by The Night Manager, which picked up four nominations.
So just who will take home gold at the 2017 Globes? Make your predictions by voting in EW’s poll of the film categories below, and weigh in on the TV awardshere.

5 things to watch for at the Golden Globes

Let's be honest, some of us tune in simply for the glamorous gown parade. This year, we're keeping our eyes peeled for style stars like Blake Lively, who will surely be on the arm of her husband, Deadpoolnominee Ryan Reynolds, and nominees like La La Land's Emma StoneJackie's Natalie PortmanLoving's Ruth NeggaDivorce's Sarah Jessica Parker and The AmericansKeri Russell. Expect stars to wear and hail Tom Ford, who is nominated for directing Nocturnal Animals (he's also been known to dress his star Amy Adams, who is nominated for Arrival). And let's not forget this year's fashion-forward presenters, who include Reese WitherspoonSofia VergaraJessica ChastainZoe SaldanaNicole Kidman and Priyanka Chopra.

Don't miss the first few minutes. Taking over for the acerbic Ricky Gervais is the more genial and celeb-friendly Fallon, who told Extra he's starting the showSaturday Night Live-style with a cold open. "They’ve never done a cold opening like a sketch, and it’s good," said Fallon, name-dropping famous participants such as Tina Fey. (Jimmy Kimmel will be hot on his trail as the Oscars host on Feb. 26.) If anyone can loosen up this A-list crowd (who typically imbibe the plentiful free booze on the tables), it's him — just look at the crazy antics they agree to on The Tonight Show

While the Globes do not usually include an "In Memoriam" segment, producers have indicated the show will reference the tragic loss of the mother and daughter actresses. “We do realize there were some special circumstances of very recent nature that happened and I think we’ll be acknowledging that” during the show, Globes producer Barry Adelman told People. Fisher, 60, died Dec. 27, four days after suffering a heart-related medical emergency on a flight from London to Los Angeles. One day later, Reynolds, 84, died after an apparent stroke at her son's home while discussing funeral plans for her daughter.
Viola Davis will present Streep with this year's Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. The honor certainly makes sense: The beloved actress, who is nominated for Florence Foster Jenkins this year, is a 30-time Globe nominee and an eight-time winner. (Imagine her trophy room; Streep has also been nominated for 19 Oscars, with three wins.)

The Globes love to put the spotlight on hot new shows, and this year's best drama category is full of fresh fare, with The Crown taking on Westworld,This Is Us,Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. In the comedy category, Donald Glover's critical hit Atlanta will challenge established favorites Black-ish, Mozart in the Jungle, Transparent and Veep. And watch for stiff competition among limited series, with The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story competing with The Night Manager, The Night OfThe Dresser and American Crime.
